I've decided to go in new directions this year. Yay! For one thing, I am making matching sets of dinnerware pieces (plates, bowls, cups, mugs, salad bowls, casserole dishes). Rather than one of a kind serving platters. And I'll paint Douglas fir and redwood forests on the sets, dipping first in Shino glaze, then painting the trees in wax resist, then dipping in Yellow Salt glaze. Like a forest in the mist. Like home at the creek house. On to each piece, I'm stamping a small running horse I etched onto clay and fired.
I like to think about the whole set up I'll create at Art Center Ukiah's Corner Gallery to show these dinner sets. I plan to swap my generic black pedestals for a small dining table, and prepare the table as if for dinner.
And I'm making increasingly large women-and-bowl sculptures (which are salt women when still small enough), hoping that the next attempt to make them large does not explode. What else in new directions? We'll see.
